Insights from CIFAR Alliance’s Panel at Climate Week NYC 2024

On 24th September 2024, the CIFAR Alliance hosted an insightful panel discussion on "Gender Responsive Innovations for Climate Financial Resilience" during  Climate Week NYC.

The session brought together expert panelists, including Kerry Dittmeier (Technical Director, Climate Gender, Equity Fund), Peter Zetterli (Climate Change Lead, CGAP), Jorge Gastelumendi (Senior Director, Atlantic Council), Elisabeth Ballreich, CFA (Managing Director, Women's World Banking Asset Management), Nelly Ramírez Moncada (Secretariat Co-lead, CIFAR Alliance), and Anant Jayant Natu (Associate Partner, MicroSave Consulting (MSC)), who explored the intersection of inclusive finance, gender, and climate change, highlighting innovative strategies for building resilience.

Key takeaways:

✅ Women play a critical role as first responders to climate shocks, yet they face disproportionate risks. Solutions that prioritize their needs are crucial for effective climate adaptation.

✅ Innovative tools, such as extreme heat insurance, can safeguard vulnerable populations, particularly women, who are disproportionately impacted by climate change.

✅ Financial institutions, while increasingly aware of climate risks, often face challenges in adopting gender-responsive climate actions within their operations.

✅ There is an urgent need for blended finance solutions to support climate adaptation efforts, especially those led by women.
